Site Description

Linwater Cravan Park is a peaceful, family run Park for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents, situated on open farmland just west of Edinburgh. You can enjoy all the delights of Scotland's capital city and then head west to the peace and quiet of the countryside. This is easily achieved by two Park and Rides Park and Rides nearby. One at Hermiston on the A71, and the quickest and most direct, at Ingliston, beside Edinburgh Airport on the A8. Parking is both safe and free, and a daily ticket can be bought, enabling you to travel in and out, as well as full use of the "Lothian" buses around Edinburgh all day.

They are ideally situated for visiting Edinburgh, the Royal Highland Showground, home of the famous Royal Highland Show in June and many other shows and exhibitions, the Falkirk Wheel, and the new Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is just 1 mile away with the "only indoor covered climbs on natural rock in the world."

They welcome visitors from all over the world, including many from Holland. Mr Dieman from Hilversum is a regular, as he has family in the area, and he has very kindly written a Welcome to Linwater in Dutch for our Dutch visitors. They are very grateful to him for doing this, and thank him very much for taking the time to do so, and hope you will find it useful.

There is easy access from the Park to the M9 - Falkirk/Stirling; the M90 Forth Road Bridge to Perth and beyond; the M8 to Glasgow and to the A720 City Bypass which leads to all roads south - A1,A68,A7,A702.

More Details

They opened the 4 star Park in 1998, with 60 spacious level grass pitches, most with 16 amp electric hook-ups. They now have some hard-standings available and a separate sheltered tenting area with designated pitches where cars can be parked alongside your tent. This is also where their new Timbertents are situated, and therefore at busy times, they have additional tent pitches further down the Park, where cars can again be parked alongside your tent.

Their Scandinavian style amenity building offers excellent facilities including free showers and privacy cubicles. These are kept clean to the highest of standards and. There is also a small laundry, separate disabled shower-room and dish washing area.

Their small reception has plenty of tourist information to help you plan your stay - whether it is to venture into Edinburgh or to tour the area - or to travel further afield. As there are many shops and supermarkets in the area, They only have a few sweets etc. for sale, but milk, newspapers and rolls can be ordered daily. Bacon from Alastair's saddleback pigs and eggs from his hens, can usually be bought in Reception, subject to availability.

Well behaved dogs - and children - are most welcome, and for the children they have a large sandpit with plenty toys to help you dig and build. Dogs should be kept on leads around the Park, although theirs sometimes set a bad example by coming across just to check out the visitors. They have a lovely dog walk off the Park which leads to a path which goes to the Union Canal and to Almondell Country Park. This path can sometimes be muddy so do come prepared. A sheet of walks is available in Reception to help you explore around them.
