Site Description

Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre Campsite is located just behind the visitor centre. It is essential for you to contact the Visitor Centre prior your visit to book. Due to popularity it is necessary to book up to 4 weeks in advance during school and bank holidays.

Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre is the main point of contact to find out about everything to see and do in Afan Forest Park. It’s the ideal place to start your day.

The Centre has a range of facilities including; campsite (toilets and showers), café, gift shop, bike wash, cycle hire, two Beamer Trampers (Shop Mobility) the newly renovated South Wales Miners’ Museum and training/conference room facilities.   The centre also includes an information service, a first aid station and base for the Forest Park Rangers. The friendly staff can provide information and guides concerning different trails and difficulty levels.

Facilities for camping

  • Recycling systems in place – please dispose recycling in the correct bins on the campsite. Additional bin bags will be provided from the visitor centre.
  • Fires are allowed but only use the fire pits on the field – fire wood supplied in the bunkers
  • Toilets are located on the campsite along with BBQ stands and fire extinguishers.
  • Showers – tokens available from the visitor centre

If you arrive after centre hours, find a suitable pitch and pay at the centre on the following morning.

 

During the winter period the Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre campsite will be closed

 

The Visitor Centre is the starting point for the ‘Penhydd’ and ‘Y Wâl’ mountain bike trails, 9 circular walks, a family puzzle trail, a 26 point orienteering course and access to bridle paths.   From here you can also gain access to the Coed Morgannwg Walk.  

The Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre and surrounding area plays host to regular visits from schools whereby Forestry Commission Wales provides an educational visit service.
