SITE INFORMATION

In the past, Dunstan Hill saw 400 years of violence and unrest you can see the results in the local castles and fortifications. Now it could not be more tranquil, just a mile from the glorious Northumberland coast.The lovely beaches of the North Northumberland Heritage Coast are a few minutes' walk away. Embleton Bay has a wide, golden, sandy beach with views to Dunstanburgh Castle.Boats to the Farne Islands leave from Seahouses. The Islands are famous for breeding bird colonies (including puffins) in early summer, and a seal colony.Bamburgh Castle traces its royal heritage back to the seventh century.The RNLI's Grace Darling Museum celebrates the heroine's life in Bamburgh.Barter Books, in the old Alnwick station, is one of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britain.

Alnwick Castle is now famous for its part in the Harry Potter film series.Craster is situated around a natural haven and is best known for its kippers.Crabs, lobsters and salmon are landed by local fishing boats.Alnwick Garden is constantly developing. The Serpent Garden is home to a giant holly serpent and the Poison Garden holds some of the most deadly plants in the world.Howick Hall Gardens are best known for their spring bulbs and the woodland garden.Embleton village is a mile from site and has a shop, Post Office and petrol station.

The site is on the bus route from Berwick to Alnwick. Trains go from Alnmouth station to Newcastle and Berwick upon Tweed.
